Dear Director/Producer,
Welcome to the 3rd The Asian Pitch. This is a NHK-MediaCorp-KBS collaboration for
independent directors who live and work in Asia, to tell original stories about
your country or Asia. We are looking for four stories from Asia every year and we
hope that yours can be one of them.
Since the pitch started in 2007, we have received more than 200 proposals from Cambodia,
China, India, Indonesia, South Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, Philippines, Singapore,
Vietnam and USA.
Many were original and interesting stories from the ground.
We understand that in some parts of Asia, HD production has not picked up yet but
we hope that you will not let this deter you from submitting your story proposals
because should you win the pitch, you will be given the relevant assistance and
guidance to turn your story into a world-class HD documentary
Through this project, we hope to get strong and compelling Asian stories that we
can show to a wider Asian audience through the public broadcasters. We hope to present
Asian viewpoints, production styles and values to Western markets. It’s about
a new wave of story–telling of Asian issues and concerns that will make an impact
in Asia and the international market.
We invite you to read the terms and conditions carefully and submit your proposal
in triplicate to the address indicated on the form. If you have any comments, please
feel free to email us at theasianpitch@mediacorp.com.sg
Warmest regards
Fumio Narashima, Deputy Director, Programming Department, NHK
Ong Hee Yah, Caldecott Productions Int’l, a division of MediaCorp Pte Ltd
Cho In Seok, Head of Special Documentary Team, KBS
Our logo is created by a combination of colored threads to symbolize
the fabric of Asia. Whether it’s the Indian cotton or Indonesian batik or
silk that comes from Thailand, China and Japan, each fabric identifies one country
and culture from the other. We hope that out of The Asian Pitch, an original tapestry
of documentaries about Asia will emerge from the talents within.
